The local river, the principal source for all water needs, annually dries up for long periods of time and potentially harbours disease.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

In 2001 Project Rhino raised enough funds to provide expertise for field investigations and subsequent drilling of a borehole at the local school to provide clean groundwater for the local community.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
\"\"<\/a>
Once the borehole was drilled a new pump house was built and an old Lister Pump located, fully serviced and then brought back into service to provide the power to drive the submersible pump.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
\"\"<\/a>
Also at the school a new storage tank was built so that supply could be maintained for brief periods when servicing of the pump and generator needed to be carried out and maintain enough head of water to supply a kiosk approximately 1.5km away at Shamba.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

However at the time in question, the local water source was once again drying up and there was a need to install sustainable equipment so that a reliable water supply could be maintained. John Hackett, a Hydrogeologist from Anglian Water Services Ltd, donated his time to go to Kenya to assist with the installation of a new submersible pump and rising main (Boreline)<\/a> <\/strong>donated by Hose Manufacturers.<\/p>\n

In less than a day the whole installation is done and in place and water is again supplied to the school as well as the kiosk at Shamba.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Anglian Water was approached by Project Rhino for it’s expertise in groundwater. Through a combination of contacts and a scheme called Give Me Five, whereby the company matches the amount of time the volunteer gives up, the rural community of Kilo can now look forward to a brighter future with the installation of a new borehole (sourced by Project Rhino), pump (supplied by Davis & Shirtliff) and Boreline hose, flexible rising main and couplings (donated by Hose Manufacturers).<\/strong><\/p>\n
