In this particular project, two submersible pumps had to be installed quickly and efficiently for a temporary dewatering job and Boreline was the obvious choice.
There were site restrictions that would not allow the Boreline to be installed in the traditional method, ie. where it is laid on the ground and installed horizontally by being attached to a vehicle.
Instead, a mobile crane was deployed at the wells and this would be used to install the pumps and Boreline to the required depth.
Below are some pictures to indicate the procedure when installing Boreline vertically. An advantage is that mobile cranes are readily available and are sometimes needed to lift heavy pumps into position. But in this case, when the drop pipe is Boreline, the project becomes easier, simpler and much safer.
The pump and power cable have already been attached to the Boreline along the entire length. The lengths were then folded and packed onto the trailer for transport to the well.
Arriving on site:
Due to its lightweight and roll-flat nature, Boreline could be delivered to site on a trailer attached to a standard pick-up instead of on a large, low-bed truck.
A heavy-duty clamp is then attached to the hose and used to lift the pump into position. This clamp consists of two sections of channel iron that squeeze and grip the Boreline. In this way the pump and pipe can be raised and lowered.
Lowering the pump and Boreline:
The Boreline and pump are simply raised, positioned over the well and lowered straight into the well. There is no need for screwing sections or attaching the power cable as this was completed off-site (during subsequent retrievals and installations, the power cable will not have to be untied from the Boreline, as they remain joined together).
The heavy-duty clamp will come to rest on the well casing while the other clamp is attached to the hose.
Heavy Duty clamps in operation:
As the second clamp is lifted, this will raise the clamp at the well, which is then removed. The next section on Boreline is lowered with the second clamp coming to rest again on the well casing.
This operating will continue until the pump is set at the required depth and the base plate comes to rest on the well casing at the surface.
The pump has been installed in one continuous length of Boreline. There are no joints. There are no welds. It is just one continuous length from the pump to the surface.
Both pumps are in position and are plumbed and connected at the surface. The dewatering process began within a couple of hours and ran continuously until the project was completed.
